Roseanne Barr Downwardly Mobile

Roseanne Barr Downwardly Mobile, Sources tell THR that the former sitcom star-turned-best-selling author has set up a new project at 20th Century Fox Television with her longtime boyfriend Johnny Argent.

The project, titled Downwardly Mobile, would be a star vehicle for Barr. It's designed to mine similar territory to her hit 1990s sitcom Roseanne: a close-knit blue-collar family living in tough economic times. Steven Greener is attached as an executive producer. Once a showrunner is tapped, the project will be shopped to networks.

It would be Barr's first sitcom since Roseanne ended in 1997 after nine seasons. Shortly after wrapping, the Emmy-winning actress dabbled in the talk show space with The Roseanne Show.Barr is currently working with Greener on her Lifetime docu-series Roseanne's Nuts. The reality show, which premiered earlier this summer, follows Barr as she runs a 40-acre macadamia nut farm in Hawaii.

The series garnered significant ink when it was first announced because Barr had spent much of the last decade out of the spotlightOff-screen, the comedian and blogger (Roseanneworld.com) has not lost her knack for generating headlines. Just last week, she declared her candidacy for president on The Tonight Show, telling Jay Leno that she wanted to be part of the debates.

The news comes as one-time Home Improvement star Tim Allen preps for his TV return with Last Man Standing at ABC, the same network that's also circling a sitcom project for former Cheers star Kirstie Alley.
