Casey Pachall leaving TCU, entering inpatient rehabilitation facility, Casey Pachall, a second-year starting quarterback at TCU and a favorite of this blog for hair-related reasons, has played his last snap for the Horned Frogs in 2012.
TCU coach Gary Patterson announced Tuesday that Pachall is entering an inpatient treatment facility following his arrest last Thursday on suspicion of DWI. Patterson left open the possibility of Pachall’s return to school and the team in the spring of 2013.
Pachall has been in the news for substance abuse-related issues before. During the wide-ranging drug investigation that resulted in the arrest and subsequent dismissal of four of his TCU teammates, he admitted to police that he’d failed a team-administered drug test in February. Pachall underwent drug and alcohol education classes and didn’t miss any playing time.
The last time we saw Pachall play in person, he was in the Poinsettia Bowl breaking single-season passing records set by his predecessor, Andy Dalton. Pachall continued his prolific play into the 2012 campaign and piloted the nation’s fifth-most efficient passing offense to a 4-0 record.
After Pachall’s post-arrest suspension, redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin (who’d been working out at running back) rushed 14 times for 63 yards and completed 23-of-40 pass attempts for 270 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the Horned Frogs’ 37-23 loss to Iowa State.
Boykin, a dual-threat quarterback from Mesquite, Texas, saw game action in Week 2 against Grambling State before receiving limited time against Virginia and SMU. But he’s about to get all the snaps he can handle.
The Horned Frogs face a stretch of seven straight Big 12 games to close out the season, a slate that includes home games against Baylor and Kansas State and road trips to Oklahoma State and West Virginia.
